During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021–25), Jinan has improved its sports infrastructure and services remarkably, aiming to meet the growing demand for fitness and encourage public participation in physical activities.
The city has expanded and improved its sports service industry, integrating various sectors. With a total output of approximately 55.59 billion yuan ($7.94 billion) and a value-added output of over 24.22 billion yuan, Jinan accounts for 21.1 percent of the total sports service industry output in Shandong province, leading the province in both categories. The city now hosts over 10,000 sports industry enterprises, providing employment for more than 100,000 people.
Jinan boasts an extensive network of 29,000 sports venues, including 11 stadiums, 17 sports parks, 70 sports-themed parks, and over 100 smart fitness facilities. Additionally, 436 school sports facilities are open to the public, with the per capita sports facility area reaching 2.8 square meters.
As for competing, Jinan athletes have had outstanding results, winning 73 gold, 24 silver, and 16 bronze medals on the international stage, while securing 224 gold, 190 silver, and 161 bronze medals in national competitions.
