A lasting tribute to People's Artist Shi Xianzhang

The unveiling ceremony of the statue of the People's Artist Mr. Shi Xianzhang, was held on October 18 at Bailuyuan Studios in Xi'an, Northwest China's Shaanxi province.  The event marked the official induction of this distinguished calligrapher into the "Hall of Fame", which honors outstanding cultural figures from the province, including Liu Qing, Lu Yao, and Chen Zhongshi.

Shi Xianzhang, a renowned Chinese calligrapher, was born in June 1930 in Wuqing, Tianjin. He served as a standing committee member of Xi'an Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and a member of China Calligraphy Association.

More than 500 people from all walks of life attended the unveiling ceremony, bearing witness to the moment when a virtuous and accomplished artist was forever enshrined in memory.

Shi Xianzhang was renowned across Shaanxi for his vigorous and profound "Shi's style" of calligraphy. Drawing on the Yan style as its foundation, his art harmoniously blends the structure and discipline of the Jin and Tang dynasties with the spirit and elegance of the Qin and Han eras.

From the Bell Tower Hotel in Xi'an to the Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor, from the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda to Mount Huashan, his inscriptions and plaques grace countless cultural landmarks across Shaanxi. These works have long been a part of the province's memory and cultural heritage.

The completion of the statue of Shi Xianzhang is an important expansion of the "Hall of Fame" in Bailuyuan Studios. It marks the successful upgrade of this landmark —long celebrated for its literary masterpieces and sculptures—into a cultural palace that gathers diverse local cultures.
