To welcome the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on Oct 6 this year, breeders at Harbin Northern Forest Zoo in Heilongjiang province prepared a festival feast for the animals at the zoo.

Breeders prepared mooncakes for their pig-tailed monkey family. The treats were made with a sweet coarse-grain crust and filled with a mixture of pecans, sunflower seeds, peanuts, sesame seeds, and almonds.

A huge fruit and vegetable mooncake was specially made for the hippo family, filled with their favorites — apples, grapes, watermelon, tomatoes, cabbage, carrots, pumpkins, alfalfa, and pelleted mixed feed.

Mooncakes made of various wild vegetables, combined with cornmeal, wheat bran, and soybean meal, offered different healthful flavors for the elks.

The groundhogs received corn and cereal mooncakes, which focus on nutrition and flavor, and can help them maintain their dental health.
