The Joint Research Institute of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) and Dongfeng Motor Corporation convened its first committee meeting on Aug 30, marking the establishment of the institute on HUST's Junshan Campus.

Launched in July 2024 in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ), the institute aims to synergize the strengths of HUST and Dongfeng Motor, focusing on pioneering technological research and its industrial applications.

You Zheng, deputy general manager of Dongfeng Motor, expressed confidence that this platform will enable both parties to utilize their strengths to address challenges in new energy power systems, artificial intelligence, and lightweight technology.

Tang Chao, director of the WEDZ administrative committee, emphasized that the robust partnership between HUST and Dongfeng Motor sets a new benchmark for industry-academia integration.

He expressed optimism that more projects and achievements will be realized and put into practice in WEDZ, which will continue to offer comprehensive support to both HUST and Dongfeng Motor.

The first six research projects have already been secured, covering areas such as solid-state batteries, humanoid robots, intelligent vehicle control, and lightweight technology. The institute will also engage in multi-dimensional collaboration in think tanks, innovation platforms, and project applications through coordinated management.
