The Hubei-Henan-Anhui Revolutionary Memorial Hall was established to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Liu-Deng Army’s strategic march into the Dabie Mountains and to honor its revolutionary spirit. Seen from above, the memorial is shaped like the cursive Chinese character for “a thousand” (qian), symbolizing the legendary “thousand-li march”.

The Dabie Mountains stretch across the provinces of Hubei, Henan, and Anhui and were a revolutionary base area for the Communist Party of China forces from the 1920s to the 1940s. In this key campaign of the War of Liberation (1946-49), commanders Liu Bocheng (1892-1986) and Deng Xiaoping (1904-97) led the army in a strategic offensive action deep into the Dabie Mountains in the Kuomintang’s heartland, marking a turning point in the three-year war.

Through a combination of historical artifacts and photographs, the memorial’s permanent exhibition chronicles the development of the Hubei-Henan-Anhui Revolutionary Base Area in seven sections, spanning from the Great Revolution (1924-27) to the War of Liberation. From “Storm of Revolt over Dabie: Sparks Ignite the Prairie Fire” and “Cradle of the Red Army: Hometown of Generals” to “The Red Soviet Area: Forging Glory Together”, “Revolutionary Heartland: Arduous Struggles”, “The Jiang-Huai Resistance: Mainstay of the Nation”, “The Central Plains Breakthrough: Relentless Advance”, and “The Thousand-Li March: A Great Feat”, they offer visitors a deep understanding of the revolutionary struggles in the Dabie Mountains and their lasting role in shaping modern China.

The museum houses over 10,000 artifacts, including documents, weapons, and other historical materials, vividly portraying the Red culture deeply rooted in the Hubei-Henan-Anhui area.
