The 5th World Congress of Biosphere Reserves (WCBR) will be held in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, from Sept 22 to 27, marking the first time the event has taken place in China and the Asia-Pacific region.
On May 16, a press conference was held in Hangzhou to unveil the official logo of the congress and launch the official website.
The new logo draws inspiration from the iconic Three Pools Mirroring the Moon of Hangzhou's West Lake. It features the letter "H" for Hangzhou at its center, along with a humanoid figure, representing harmony with the biosphere, and the Hangzhou Bridge, signifying the connection between people and nature.
The logo's circular shape is composed of multiple ecological origin dots, symbolizing an interconnected Earth characterized by coexistence and mutual prosperity. The deep-ocean blue and bamboo green color scheme represents Hangzhou's holistic approach to biosphere conservation, encompassing land, water, and air.
The congress' official website, serving as the sole authoritative platform for conference information and services, will act as a vital hub for global exchange and mutual learning in biosphere reserves.
Sponsored by UNESCO, the congress will be co-hosted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government. The 5th WCBR is expected to involve over 3,000 participants from more than 100 countries and regions.
