The Lin-gang Special Area Administration, Lingang Group and SAIC Motor Corporation Limited jointly held a signing ceremony for the Shangjie project on April 29, marking the official establishment of the Shangjie vehicle production and battery projects in Lin-gang.

In February, SAIC Motor and Huawei signed a cooperation agreement to jointly launch the new brand SAIC Shangjie. This brand, equipped with Huawei's smart mobility solutions, targets mid-to-high-end intelligent electric vehicles, aiming at core consumer groups such as families and young white-collar workers. The first model is set to hit the market this autumn.

The Lin-gang Special Area Administration has rapidly reached a consensus with SAIC Motor to ensure the project's commencement in May and vehicle roll-off in autumn this year. The establishment of the Shangjie project reflects SAIC Motor's strategic transformation and confidence in Lin-gang's industrial advantages.

Upon completion, the SAIC Lingang Base's annual vehicle production capacity will rise to 280,000 units, boosting the local automotive chain's output by an estimated 50 billion yuan ($6.87 billion) annually.

Lin-gang Special Area is home to over 200 automotive-related enterprises, forming a comprehensive industry ecosystem encompassing manufacturing, R&D, and testing. Looking ahead, the area will further strengthen its automotive industry by fostering alliances and partnerships, attracting more high-level laboratories, and promoting the growth of local automotive electronics and software enterprises.
