In recent years, numerous auto parts companies in Taizhou, Jiangsu province, have seized opportunities in the rapidly growing new energy vehicle industry. By investing in new projects and products, these companies are enhancing their core competitiveness and striving to establish Taizhou as a new hub for the automotive and auto parts industry.

At Jiangsu Xushun Dongming Cloud Intelligent Technology, workers assemble 5,000 in-vehicle multimedia systems for Foton Motor. Originally specializing in automotive door locks, the company has expanded into the innovative cockpit sector for NEV commercial vehicles, launching a dedicated in-vehicle multimedia division. With a research team of over 40 experts in Shenzhen, the company's Jingjiang facility in Taizhou has an annual production capacity of 500,000 units.

"We can independently develop everything from basic infrastructure to user interfaces and app design," said Huang Yong, deputy general manager of Xushun Dongming. "We supply products to over 150 automakers and are confident that we can achieve at least 200 million yuan ($27.54 million) in output value this year."

At the construction site of the second phase of Jiangsu Hengli Group's smart factory, two new steel-structured factory buildings are set to be completed and put into operation this month. The facility will focus on developing and producing EMB (electromechanical brakes) for commercial vehicles, reducing braking response time to 200 milliseconds and better supporting the needs of future IoT-based intelligent driving.

"One of the key challenges with EMB is achieving simultaneous braking on both sides of the vehicle," said Cao Kai, a research engineer at Hengli. "By collaborating with Jiangsu University, we have integrated software and hardware solutions to address this issue. The new EMB system has an expected annual production capacity of 50,000 to 60,000 units, creating a new growth driver for the company."

Workshop director Zhou Jianwei added, "More than half of the investment in this new project is allocated to equipment, making it highly automated and technologically advanced within the industry. All equipment has been ordered and is expected to undergo system testing in April and May, ensuring production begins in the year's first half."

Taizhou is home to approximately 300 types of automotive and auto parts products, with nearly 40 varieties holding over 30 percent of the market share.
