Yibin, "The very first city where the Yangtze River flows eastward," marks the beginning of China's mightiest waterway. Nestled in southeastern Sichuan, this river city, with its 4,000-year history, is meticulously chronicled within the Yibin Museum. The preeminent museum in the region, it offers a comprehensive journey into Yibin's past, art, and vibrant folk traditions.
The museum currently houses 12,000 cultural relics, including pottery from the Neolithic period, bronze wares, ceramics, and paintings and calligraphy works from the Ming and Qing dynasties.
The permanent historical and cultural display of Yibin highlights the evolution of this ancient city dating back more than 40,000 years to prehistoric times, the fusion of Bashu culture and Central Plains culture, and the prosperity of Yibin as a strategic fortress and a regional commercial hub in ancient Southwest China.
The other three special exhibitions feature the fine calligraphy and painting masterpieces, the folk culture and liquor culture of Yibin.
The display of liquor culture offers a complete introduction to Yibin's history of liquor making going back over 4,000 years, showcasing the liquor making craftsmanship and diverse premium liquors, with a special focus on the world-famous Wuliangye.
