Zhuzhou Museum, built in 1984, is a regional museum showcasing the diverse natural, historical and cultural resources of Zhuzhou, where the ancient Yue, Chu and Han cultures thrive.
It is located in the Shennong Scenic Area, a park dedicated to the mythical father of agriculture and traditional Chinese medicine.
Covering 20,516 square meters, the new building is designed to resemble an ancient pottery kiln.
The museum houses more than 50,000 cultural relics, encompassing 13 categories from paleontological fossils to bronze ware and ceramics. Notable collections include dinosaur fossils, bronze wares from the Shang and Zhou dynasties (c.16th century-256 BC), gold and silver wares from Song and Yuan dynasties, ceramics from Liling kiln, as well as artifacts from the industrial age.
It runs four permanent exhibitions focusing on natural and geographical evolution, historical relics, folk customs, and fine art masterpieces of Zhuzhou.
