China has developed the world's first ±800 kilovolt ultra-high voltage direct current (UHVDC) quantum current sensor, a groundbreaking achievement for quantum precision measurement and a significant advancement in the field.

Xi'an XD High Voltage Apparatus Co, a key participant in the national research project on high-precision quantum current sensors across wide temperature ranges, played a crucial role in this success.

"This is a major breakthrough for Xi'an enterprises in high-end technology, demonstrating the city's strong R&D capabilities in electrical equipment and quantum science," said Li Qiang, vice general manager.

The newly developed quantum current sensor utilizes diamond nitrogen-vacancy center magnetometry technology. By utilizing diamonds' unique quantum properties, it enables non-contact current measurement through the detection of magnetic fields generated by electric currents.

The company has achieved an unprecedented measurement range from 1 milliampere to 10 kilo-ampere, solving the challenge of non-invasive current measurement in strong magnetic and high-voltage environments.

Beyond quantum technology, the company has also made remarkable progress in green power equipment. Last year, it developed a 126kV vacuum circuit breaker and a fully enclosed gas-insulated switchgear, marking a significant step forward in low-carbon power solutions.

From UHV technology to quantum innovation, the company is pushing the boundaries of technological excellence, reflecting Xi'an's growing influence in global high-end manufacturing. With China accelerating its modern industrial system, Xi'an continues to drive high-quality development through scientific innovation.
