Hubei NPC deputies: Building world-class optoelectronic information industry cluster

The deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) from Central China's Hubei province submitted five motions to the third session of the 14th National People's Congress. The motions focused on the construction of a world-class optoelectronic information industry cluster, among other key issues.

Hubei is one of the birthplaces of China's optoelectronic information industry, characterized by a highly concentrated industrial cluster. It has evolved into the world's largest base for optical fiber and cable research and manufacturing, the nation's largest base for optoelectronic devices and optical communication technology, a significant integrated circuit industry cluster, and a major laser industry base in China. These unique advantages position Hubei as a leader in developing the optoelectronic information industry.

In 2024, the scale of Hubei's optoelectronic information industry reached 977.4 billion yuan ($134.91 billion). The optical fiber and cable industry ranks first globally, accounting for approximately 50 percent of the national and 25 percent of the global markets. Over 70 percent of the nation's laser equipment varieties are produced in Hubei, and the province leads the country in optoelectronic information innovation capabilities.

The motion titled "Supporting Hubei in Building a World-Class Optoelectronic Information Industry Cluster" emphasizes cultivating and enhancing a national-level optoelectronic information industry cluster. The goal is to create a world-class industry cluster and accelerate the construction of the "World Optics Valley". This initiative will enhance Hubei's innovation and industrial competitiveness in the optoelectronic information sector, better supporting China's efforts to achieve breakthroughs in this critical industry.
