This Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24) bronze figurine wears a short cloak and should have held an umbrella. A coiled snake is seen on each side of his chest strap, facing each other with open mouth.
In ancient Yunnan, snakes were believed to have divine protective powers, symbolizing blessings and guardianship. Unearthed from one of the Lijiashan tombs in Jiangchuan, Yunnan, this figurine reflects burial rituals, clothing and daily customs of the time. Collection: Yunnan Provincial Museum.
