The Zhou Enlai Memorial Hall, situated in Huai’an, Jiangsu province, started construction in 1986 and officially opened to the public in 1992. It is one of China's first patriotic education bases, a national 5A-level tourist attraction (the highest-level classification of attractions in China), and a national first-class museum.
Zhou Enlai, born in 1898 in Huai’an, was the first premier of the People's Republic of China and was a distinguished proletarian revolutionary, statesman, strategist, and diplomat.
The memorial hall comprises two groups of grand architectural complexes, a memorial island, and three artificial lakes covering 400,000 square meters. The hall comprises several structures, including the memorial, the main hall, and Zhou's life performance exhibition hall, each distinguished by a solemn and dignified architectural style.
As China’s largest comprehensive memorial hall dedicated to showcasing the illustrious life of Zhou, the museum houses 41,207 collections, including cultural relics, writings, paintings, souvenirs, books, and audiovisual materials.
The memorial hall also inaugurated a new permanent exhibition in 2018 — People's Premier Zhou Enlai — to mark the 120th anniversary of his birth. The exhibition vividly portrays key moments in Zhou's life with advanced display techniques, such as wall landscapes, panoramic screens, the naked-eye 3D, holographic images, and interactive display cases, creating a visually stunning and impactful experience for visitors.
