Yixing Museum was officially opened to the public in January 2017 and was recognized as a national first-class museum in 2024. It is the only comprehensive museum in Yixing that fully reflects local history and culture, with a complete collection system and rich artifacts.
Covering an area of 25,000 square meters and an exhibition hall area of 7,200 sq m, the museum highlights nine independent exhibition halls showcasing ceramics, bronze mirrors, and Buddhist cellar cultural relics unearthed from the Fazang Temple, which fully shows the local characteristics of Yixing's rich history.
As of the end of 2023, the inventory contained 35,811 items, including 153 precious cultural relics. Of these, 18 were designated as first-class, 71 as second-class, and 64 as third-class.
It is a member of the International Council of Museums and the Chinese Museum Association, the first sub-center of the Forbidden City Education Center in China, a demonstration base for the popularization of social sciences in Jiangsu province, a patriotism education base, and an ecological civilization practice education base in Wuxi.
In recent years, the museum has developed an array of cultural and creative products, integrating local pottery culture, celebrity culture, and local customs, which has significantly boosted the promotion of Yixing Museum and the city's cultural outreach.
