The Hohhot Museum oversees six distinct museum venues, each with unique features and historical significance.

Hohhot City Museum

Hohhot City Museum, located at the former site of the Inner Mongolia Museum, was established in 1957 and stands as one of Hohhot's historic landmarks. It is recognized as an autonomous region-level protected cultural relic.

The museum is affectionately known as the "Big White Horse Museum" due to the iconic sculpture of a white horse galloping atop the building. Covering an area of 12,000 square meters, the museum boasts a total building area of 5,400 sq m, with 3,650 sq m dedicated to exhibitions.

By the end of 2019, the museum's collection included 22,663 artifacts or sets, 170 of which were categorized as precious cultural relics, highlighting its rich and diverse historical significance.

Zhaojun Museum

The Zhaojun Museum is an archaeological museum centered around the tomb of Wang Zhaojun, a beautiful woman from the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220) who was married to the leader of the Xiongnu, a nomadic ethnic group to the north and who helped establish peace among them. The Zhaojun Tomb is often hailed as a "Historical Monument to Ethnic Harmony".

Covering an area of 455,000 square meters with 15,000 sq m of exhibition space, the museum houses 3,480 items, including Xiongnu artifacts, Zhaojun-themed New Year paintings, bronze works, and cultural relics from the Qidan and other northern tribes, showcasing remarkable historical, academic, and artistic value.

General Government Office Museum

The General Government Office Museum, with a history spanning more than 280 years, was originally an administrative office for the army generals in the garrison town of Suiyuan (now Hohhot) during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It now offers insights into its architectural layout, local culture, urban development of Hohhot, and the history of Suiyuan.

Princess Palace Museum

The Princess Palace, originally built in 1703 during Emperor Kangxi's reign, served as the residence of Princess Heshuo Kejing, his sixth daughter. It is the only surviving princess residence in China, covering 18,000 square meters and featuring a restored exhibition area of 1,500 square meters. Visitors can explore the "Restoration of the Qing Dynasty Princess Heshuo Kejing Palace" exhibition.

Wuta Temple Museum

Built in 1732 during the Qing Dynasty, the Wuta Temple was originally known as the Cideng Temple. Its key feature is the Vajra Throne Relic Pagoda, adorned with exquisite carvings and inscriptions in Mongolian, Tibetan, and Chinese. This masterpiece of brick art represents one of the finest examples of such architecture in China.

Fengzhou Ancient City Museum

Address: Around 100 meters west of the intersection of Hexi Lu and Lin Lu, Saihan district, Hohhot city

The museum is based on the Liao Dynasty's Wanbu Huayan Pagoda, built between 1044 and 1064. Due to its white lime coating, it is known locally as the "White Pagoda". The oldest surviving architectural structure in Hohhot, it remains a striking landmark in the Yinshan Mountains.
