Located in Zibo, capital of the ancient Qi state, now East China’s Shandong province, Zhoucun Ancient Town is known as a “land port” and is an important symbol of the development of Qi culture and its commercial spirit.

Zhoucun Ancient Town dates back to 1410, during Emperor Yongle’s reign in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). In 1904, Zhoucun was designated as a commercial port, further expanding its role as a trading hub. Merchants from nearby cities, such as Qingdao and Jinan in Shandong province, as well as distant cities such as Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, frequently carried out business in the town.

In 2001, the district government launched the protective development of Zhoucun Ancient Town. In 2004, the town officially opened to the public. To this day, the area remains vibrant, with businesses flourishing and a strong commercial atmosphere.

Covering 4.19 square kilometers, the town now holds over 50,000 square meters of preserved ancient architecture from the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911) and features a diverse range of styles, blending both Chinese and Western influences. This unique combination is rare in Shandong and China as a whole.

Today, the town features over 20 main spots, including the Thousand Buddha Temple Complex, the Qing Dynasty Post Office, Qianxiangyi Silk Shop, Ruifuxiang Silk Shop, the Folk Culture Exhibition Hall, the Silk Culture Experience Center, the British-American Tobacco Company Exhibition, and the Ticket and Voucher Museum.
