Co-organized by the People's Government of Shanghai Pudong New Area and the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, the week is comprised of one government-hosted conference and 56 industry-led events, showcasing new developments and trends in the shipping industry.

Zhang Xin, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, stated that after years of development, Shanghai has achieved significant success in becoming an international shipping center. In 2023, the container throughput of Shanghai Port hit 49.16 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), remaining the highest in the world for the 14th year in a row. A number of top shipping enterprises and institutions have set up operations in Shanghai, attracted by the city's shipping service clusters.

At the opening ceremony, several keynote speeches focusing on the latest policies, hotspots, and trends in the shipping industry were delivered. The green and intelligent demonstration route between Suzhou Port and Waigaoqiao Port officially opened, marking a step towards reducing carbon emissions in the shipping sector.

Pudong, as the core area of Shanghai's international shipping center, is actively promoting digitalization, intelligence, and green transformation in the shipping industry, strengthening its global logistics competitiveness. With agreements for a series of high-level shipping projects signed, Pudong Shipping Week demonstrates the unique advantages of Pudong's shipping industry and its commitment to fostering new productive forces through reform and openness.
