As of Monday, Harbin Taiping International Airport in Harbin, Heilongjiang province, has handled a cumulative 20.85 million passengers this year, marking a 14.8 percent increase compared to the same period of 2023.

Harbin gained significant popularity during the Spring Festival period, leading to rising passenger traffic at the airport and multiple new records.

On Jan 27, the airport's passenger volume exceeded 80,000 for the first time.

In February, the airport handled 14,900 flights and served 2.38 million passengers, setting a new monthly record.

To meet the travel demands of the public, the airport has coordinated with airlines to flexibly adjust capacity by adding new routes, increasing flight frequencies and changing aircraft types.

New direct routes from Harbin to domestic cities have been opened, including routes to Xining in Qinghai province, Urumqi and Altay in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, and Yinchuan in the Ningxia Hui autonomous region.

Leveraging its geographical advantage of being close to Russia, Harbin Airport has intensified its connectivity efforts with countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, striving to build an international route network. The network includes routes to Russian cities, such as Krasnoyarsk and Blagoveshchensk.

The airport now operates 172 routes, connecting 97 cities at home and abroad.

It has formed an air traffic network centered on Harbin, radiating to major cities in China and connecting to neighboring countries like Russia, Japan and South Korea, as well as major countries and regions in Europe and America.
