A consignment of produce exhibits from France for the upcoming 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) recently arrived at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, weighing a total of approximately 1,200 kilograms and including fresh apples, apple juice, and kiwi berries.
This is the first time French kiwi berries have entered into China, having obtained quarantine approval in preparation for their debut in the country at this year's CIIE.
Last April, China and France issued a joint statement which included opening the market to kiwi berries. Following the statement, the General Administration of Customs of China issued an announcement on April 14, 2023, outlining the phytosanitary requirements for importing the fruit.
To ensure the smooth customs clearance of the produce, the Shanghai Exhibition and Convention Center Customs, part of Shanghai Customs, actively coordinated with the exhibitors, learned about their logistics plans in advance, and assigned specialists to guide enterprises through the entire online declaration process.
Upon arrival, customs officers at Shanghai Pudong International Airport promptly inspected the fruit to verify their conformity with documents, checked specifications, quantity, and appearance, conducted quarantine inspections for plant diseases and pests, and took samples for pesticide and other safety risk monitoring. After all inspections were completed, the exhibits were quickly released, providing sufficient time for installation and display at the exhibition hall.
