In the first three quarters, the revenue of the express delivery sector exceeded 1 trillion yuan ($140 billion), with a year-on-year growth of 14.1 percent, said the State Post Bureau on Tuesday.

During the same period, China's express delivery volume reached 123.77 billion pieces, a year-on-year increase of 22 percent.

Inter-city business continued to be the driving force, contributing almost 90 percent to the delivery volume surge nationwide. The growth of intra-city business has stabilized, with a year-on-year volume increase of 18.4 percent. Since May, the volume of express delivery has consistently exceeded 14 billion pieces monthly, with September seeing 14.97 billion pieces delivered, an 18.7 percent year-on-year rise.

In the first three quarters, the proportion of express delivery business volume in the eastern, central and western regions accounted for 72.6 percent, 18.6 percent and 8.8 percent of the national total, respectively. Compared to the previous year, the western and central regions saw an increase of 0.9 and 1.3 percentage points, respectively.

Furthermore, companies are actively exploring the application of artificial intelligence. Recently, low-altitude air delivery service has received an increase in policy support in several regions, leading to the further promotion of drone delivery services.
