Dr Peter Kreutzberger, chairman of the Federation of German-Chinese Friendship Associations, led a delegation to Nantong, Jiangsu province from Oct 15 to 17.
Nantong boasts close economic and trade relations with Germany, which is also a key country for the city in attracting high-quality European enterprises and resources. World-class German companies such as Merck, BASF, Bayer, and Symrise have taken root and expanded in Nantong with frequent new investments.
So far, the Chinese city and its district and county have established sister city relationships with three cities in Germany: Torsdorf, Schwarzenbek, and Teltow.
Pan Jianhua, head of the Nantong People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, briefly introduced Nantong's economic and social development.
Pan noted that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Germany. He expressed hope for closer exchanges and cooperation between Nantong and Germany in areas such as the establishment of sister city relationships, economy and trade, investment, and culture and education.
Dr Kreutzberge thanked Nantong for its warm reception and offered an introduction to the Federation of German-Chinese Friendship Associations. He said he expects to be able to better showcase Nantong's local traditional culture and economic and social development to the German public.
During its stay in Nantong, the German delegation visited the Nantong Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, Nantong Traditional Chinese Medicine Museum, China Abacus Museum, and Nantong Blue Calico Museum to gain a deeper understanding of the city's culture.
