Xi'an recently issued the pilot plan for collaborative innovation in pollution and carbon reduction, aiming to explore a path toward clean energy, green industrialization, and resource recycling.

The plan aims to facilitate Xi'an's comprehensive green transformation and achieve carbon peak and neutrality goals.

According to the plan, Xi'an aims to become a benchmark city for applying new energy vehicles (NEVs) by 2026, focusing on promoting NEVs in public transportation, municipal sanitation, logistics, and government vehicles.

Efforts will be made to upgrade existing transportation infrastructure to be more energy-efficient by constructing low-carbon stations, airports, and highway service areas. By 2026, over 93 percent of public buses and 90 percent of taxis in Xi'an are targeted to be NEVs.

Xi'an plans to increase the share of renewable energy generation to over 30 percent by 2026 and achieve a non-fossil energy consumption ratio of over 22 percent. The city will strive to promote solar photovoltaic coverage on public buildings and industrial rooftops, targeting 50 percent coverage by 2025.

Xi'an will no longer construct coal-fired heating stations and will avoid new gas heating stations. Instead, clean energy sources must heat new residential and commercial buildings. The city will prioritize developing geothermal heating projects, aiming to add 16 million square meters of geothermal heating by 2026.

Furthermore, Xi'an is committed to establishing a "zero-waste city". By 2026, it hopes to achieve high rates of comprehensive utilization of industrial solid waste and household waste, promoting a sustainable and environmentally friendly waste management system.
