During the 2024 summer travel season, from July 1 to Aug 31, Shanghai Customs processed 6.99 million inbound and outbound trips. Of these, 6.67 million were air trips, and 315,000 were cruise tours.

As China continues to expand the number of countries eligible for visa-free entry, more foreign nationals are choosing Shanghai as their first stop when entering China.

Pudong International Airport Customs handled 6.10 million inbound and outbound trips, marking a nearly 60 percent year-on-year increase, according to Shanghai Customs.

Hongqiao International Airport Customs processed 577,000 trips, reflecting a 9 percent year-on-year rise.

The average daily number of trips processed by Pudong Customs has returned to over 100,000, with an average of 532 flights managed per day.

From July to August, over 100,000 foreign travelers entered and exited China through Hongqiao Port, a 12.9 percent increase compared to the same period last year, as reported by the Hongqiao Border Inspection Station. Tourists, family visitors, and business travelers made up 60 percent of this number.

Summer is also the peak season for cruise tourism. Shanghai Customs processed 114 international cruise ship entries and exits over the two-month period, primarily at the Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal and the Hongkou North Bund International Passenger Terminal.

China's first domestically built large cruise ship, the Adora Magic City, made 28 of these trips.
