In the early hours of Sept 1, a flight carrying fresh aquatic products from South Korea landed at Hohhot Baita International Airport – in Hohhot, capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – marking the official launch of the airport's designated supervision site for imported fresh aquatic products.

The site fully adheres to customs supervision standards and is equipped to inspect, test and quarantine high-risk imported animals, plants and their products.

The first shipment included 20 boxes of halibut from South Korea. After thorough inspection and sampling by local commerce, customs and airport staff, the goods cleared customs in just an hour.

With the new supervision site, the time required for fresh aquatic products to clear customs has been reduced from 10 days to about three days.

It's projected that this will ensure an annual import capacity of up to 3,000 tons of fresh aquatic products – significantly enhancing the variety of seafood available to local consumers.

A representative from the Hohhot municipal bureau of commerce highlighted the fact that this development represented a breakthrough for the city's aviation port, enabling the importation of fresh aquatic products for the first time.

What's more, it will further enhance the port's functionality, expand import options and strengthen Hohhot's position as a key aviation logistics hub.
