Hangzhou Railway Station achieved a new milestone this summer, serving 20.51 million passengers between July 1 and Aug 31, a 4.8-percent increase compared to the previous year. This marks the first time the station has served more than 20 million passengers during the summer travel period.

Of the passengers, 4.95 million engaged in long-distance travel, while 15.56 million went on short trips. The station saw daily passenger numbers exceed 350,000 on 17 days, with four consecutive days of over 400,000 passengers in late August.

Rail transport was a popular choice among students, children, and families during the 62-day summer travel season. Hangzhou Station sold 1.77 million children’s tickets and 154,000 student tickets, reflecting significant year-over-year growth.

To meet the high demand, Hangzhou Railway Station increased its capacity by adding 2,656 trains during the period, with popular routes including Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangxi, Henan, and Fujian. Despite challenges posed by typhoons and extreme weather, the station ensured smooth operations by adjusting train schedules, enhancing air conditioning in waiting areas, and providing extensive passenger services.

Additionally, over 1,700 volunteers participated in service activities at Hangzhou, Hangzhou East, and Hangzhou South stations, contributing more than 13,000 hours of service and assisting over 9,000 passengers with special needs.
