A celebratory performance marking the 50th anniversary of friendship between Xi'an and Japan's Kyoto was held in Xi'an on Aug 29.
Kyoto became Xi'an's international sister city in 1974. Since then, the two cities have engaged in exchanges and cooperation in culture, education, and sports, setting an example for local city interactions between China and Japan.
In celebration of the 50th anniversary, a delegation led by Yoshinao Nishimura, chairman of the Kyoto City Assembly, visited Xi'an for discussions and cooperation talks.
During the visit, the two cities signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen their exchanges and cooperation in tourism, culture, arts, and heritage conservation through regular information sharing and mutual visits.
A special exhibition showcased traditional Kyoto crafts such as spinning tops, brocades, and folding fans, allowing Xi'an residents to experience the charm of Kyoto's traditions firsthand.
The event also featured cultural lectures with Japanese artisans sharing the history and development of Kyoto spinning tops.
Yoshinao Nishimura appreciated Xi'an's rich historical and cultural heritage, emphasizing the deep connections between Xi'an and Kyoto. He hoped that the 50th anniversary would strengthen their friendship and create new opportunities for collaboration between the two cities.
