Coral reefs, as a vital part of marine ecosystems, support a quarter of marine species and sustain a billion people. However, illegal fishing practices using bottom trawls have severely damaged coral habitats. Procuratorial authorities, in collaboration with multiple departments, have innovatively addressed this issue by adopting alternative protection measures. The ecological restoration fund, paid by illegal fishers as compensation for coral cultivation and regeneration, is being used for coral planting.
