Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, has rolled out plans to build a national intellectual property (IP) protection demonstration zone.

The plan outlines 17 measures in six categories, including strengthening overall deployment of IP protection, enhancing the level of rule of law, reinforcing full-chain protection, deepening institutional mechanism reforms, and promoting regional cooperation.

The plan proposes leveraging the Xi'an smart city supervision integration platform to explore new models in the field of IP protection such as "internet + command", "internet + supervision" and "internet + enforcement".

Actions will be taken to protect geographical indications like Huxian grapes, Yanliang sweet melons, Lintong pomegranates, and Zhouzhi kiwi fruit, with infringements and counterfeits to be strictly cracked down on.

The city will also enhance IP protection and cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, utilizing platforms like the Euro-Asia Economic Forum to facilitate international exchanges with Central Asian countries and other nations as well as establish new cross-border cooperation mechanisms with Xi'an characteristics.

In addition, the city will tailor precise strategies for import and export enterprises engaged in strategic emerging industries like new energy and materials, encouraging them to apply for IP records and facilitating the export of products made by Xi'an enterprises.
