Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport has become the first airport in China to receive the EATNS Carbon Management System Certification from the Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange.

The EATNS Carbon Management System covers a comprehensive carbon management framework, including carbon emissions, carbon assets, carbon trading, carbon neutrality, and carbon credit evaluation.

As a designated pilot unit for carbon emissions trading in Shanghai, Hongqiao Airport has significantly advanced its carbon emissions and trading systems, laying a solid foundation for the carbon management system evaluation.

Official data indicates a 12.5 percent reduction in unit carbon emissions intensity for both passengers and cargo in 2023 compared to 2019, underscoring the airport's effective emission reduction measures.

In alignment with China's national goals for carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, Hongqiao Airport has embraced opportunities for digital, intelligent, and green development. The airport is actively developing an integrated energy and carbon management system, focusing on optimizing energy structures, upgrading energy-saving technologies, and promoting low-carbon architectures, making it a leading example of green and low-carbon development in the country.
