Xi'an Xianyang International Airport has currently opened or resumed a total of 30 international and regional passenger routes, including to destinations such as London, Sydney, Moscow, Dubai, and Budapest.
In the first half of this year, the airport handled 4,790 international and regional flights, transporting 531,000 passengers and marking significant year-on-year increases of 109 percent and 247.7 percent, respectively.
Currently, the airport connects seven cities in five Central Asian countries, making it the top domestic hub for Central Asian routes.
The number of weekly flights between Xi'an and Central Asia has increased to 14, ensuring nearly 100,000 passengers annually. Xi'an now ranks among the top three nationally in terms of market share for Central Asian passengers.
In the future, the airport plans to resume routes to Istanbul in Turkiye, Chiang Mai in Thailand, and Phnom Penh in Cambodia, while opening new routes to Chimkent in Kazakhstan and Tbilisi in Georgia.
In line with the facilitation policies for foreigners entering China set by the National Immigration Administration, the airport introduced an international transfer 24-hour visa-free transit service on Jan 8. Passengers with layovers at the airport and who depart on international connecting flights to a third country within 24 hours are exempt from border inspection procedures. It is the only airport in northwestern China to offer such a service.
Also, the airport's Overseas Guest Payment Service Center was launched in March, offering a diverse range of payment options, including foreign card transactions, QR code payments, UnionPay, currency exchange, cash transactions, and digital yuan.
