Delivery riders in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, will face at least one-day suspension from accepting orders on any platforms if they commit three or more traffic violations within a week, according to a report by Guangzhou Daily on Monday.

Guangzhou market supervision and regulation authorities are taking proactive measures to address safety concerns related to the use of electric bikes in the food delivery sector. Industry associations have been instructed to implement the punitive measure, aiming to curb the frequent issue of traffic violations among delivery riders.

This operation, along with the registration and licensing of electric bikes used in the food delivery sector in Guangzhou, involves assessing the basic information of delivery service providers in the city to establish a comprehensive database for better oversight and regulation.

Market supervision authorities, in collaboration with the local public security department, have conducted meetings urging delivery platforms to ensure that deliveries adhere to the legal speed limit of 25 kilometers per hour for electric bikes. This includes setting scientific time limits and routes.

Furthermore, market supervision authorities have sent written notifications to the headquarters of delivery service providers, urging them to address safety hazards associated with electric bikes throughout the entire delivery process. Companies are also asked to enhance their delivery management systems, improve vehicle management regulations for delivery personnel, and provide feedback on self-assessment and corrective measures to supervisory authorities.
