A river tern, nationally protected species, has been reintroduced into the wild along the Daying River in Dehong, Yunnan province, marking a significant conservation milestone as the bird adapts well to its natural habitat.
Remarkably, this release follows the country's first successful artificial hatching of a river tern chick, after a nest was found deserted. Known for their rarity, river terns are summer visitors to this specific area, the only known nesting ground in China.
