Intl friends celebrate Dragon Boat Festival in Datong city

Datong city In North China's Shanxi province welcomed over 20 international friends on June 10 from a number of countries – including the US, Russia, Algeria and Armenia – to join in the festivities and experience the charms of traditional Chinese culture.

The event aimed to promote Chinese cultural heritage, helping foreign guests to better understand and appreciate Datong.

Local folklore experts presented an introduction to the origins and customs of the Dragon Boat Festival, deepening the appreciation of the visitors of the cultural significance behind the holiday.

During a hands-on experience, the international guests learned how to make zongzi, the traditional rice dumplings, by wrapping bamboo leaves and filling them with glutinous rice and red dates. This absorbing activity allowed them to enjoy the unique aspects of Chinese culture.

The event also showcased Datong's rich local culture and cuisine, leaving a lasting impression on the international attendees.

They expressed their admiration for Datong's cultural vibrancy and openness, while sharing their positive experiences of living and working in the city. The day was filled with joy and laughter, marking a memorable Dragon Boat Festival with a distinct Datong flavor.
