The Putuo Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum in Putuo district, Zhoushan, Zhejiang province recently opened to the public, as reported by local media on June 11.

The museum offers a captivating insight into the city's distinctive maritime culture, showcasing a myriad of traditional skills including wooden boat making, intricate embroidery, captivating fishermen's paintings, and the art of boat boxing.

Zheng Hongfei, a distinguished representative inheritor of fishermen's paintings, expressed his pride in having his artwork selected for display in the museum. He highlighted the importance of this opportunity in enabling more individuals to grasp the essence of Putuo's unique cultural heritage and island allure, while further advocating for the promotion of fishermen's paintings.

The museum also presents Zhoushan fishing proverbs traditionally utilized by fishermen to predict weather patterns at sea, the intricate techniques involved in crafting Putuo Buddha tea, and the ancient practice of Gu-style bone-setting therapy.

During the museum's inauguration, visitors were treated to a hands-on experience in crafting traditional fabric art — specifically zongzi-shaped sachets. The interactive offerings extended further with opportunities to engage in traditional children's games and experience the art of boat boxing.

The museum will play a crucial role in helping the public understand and appreciate the value and significance of cultural legacies through exhibitions, displays, and exchanges, according to Zheng Xiaoting, deputy director of the Putuo Cultural Museum.

Putuo is currently home to a rich tapestry of 66 intangible heritage projects spanning across traditional crafts, music, dance, drama, and fine arts.
