This year's liuyuehuang, June hairy crabs with soft shells and tender meat, have hit the market and made their way to dinner tables in Yangzhou, East China's Jiangsu province.

A hairy crab sheds its coat more than 10 times in its lifetime. Just before reaching adulthood it is nicknamed as liuyuehuang. Despite its relatively soft shell, the meat of liuyuehuang is known for its luxurious flavor, making it a highly sought-after seasonal delicacy as summer approaches.

Industry insiders predict that the Yangzhou-produced June hairy crabs will be at their tastiest after June 20.
