A sound ecological environment is the greatest advantage a city can have when developing, a fact which Sanya in South China's Hainan province is well aware of as it seeks to boost growth.

The tropical city adheres to the path of green development, high-quality economic development and high-level environmental protection, striving to become a model for national ecological civilization construction.

Sanya has been building a livable environment with "blue skies, green trees, clear waters, and clean land" in order to increase the wellbeing of its residents.

The city is safeguarding mountains and strengthening water resource protection, rolling out the a forest, river, lake, and bay chief system, and addressing environmental protection inspection feedback.

It seeks to establish a long-term mechanism for the construction of an ecological civilization, conducting "zero-waste city" pilot projects, promoting the use of new energy vehicles and shared bicycles, and fostering a culture of waste reduction and classification.

Environmental protection in Sanya focuses on three key aspects. Firstly, defending its blue skies, clear waters, and clean land. Various departments have issued a series of relevant regulations and taken corresponding management and supervision measures to achieve environmental protection goals. Secondly, strengthening ecological protection, restoration, and supervision, as well as clarifying responsibilities and establishing systems to create a national forest city.

Thirdly, adhering to the concept of green and low-carbon development, as well as improving measures for waste sorting and establishing a "zero-waste city."

Despite temporary challenges in terms of ecological infrastructure, environmental risk prevention and control, and ecological product transformation, the coastal city is determined to establish a green, low-carbon circular model to achieve the dual carbon goals as well as enhance waste control to create a new "zero-waste city" model.
