China's first full-time, multi-salinity, large-scale salt-alkali tolerant rice professional scientific research and test base under outdoor field conditions, was recently completed and launched in Sanya on May 27.

The test base, equipped with features such as full functionality, intelligence, high precision, and high throughput, significantly enhances the research and development capabilities for salt-alkali-tolerant rice in China.

Situated in the Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City, the base spans 108 mu (7.2 hectares), and includes high-standard test fields, ponds for accurate salinity or alkalinity identification, automated rain-proof steel sheds, irrigation and salt drainage systems, intelligent soil and water salinity and alkalinity monitoring systems, an IoT system, and other supporting facilities, which can support fundamental research, germplasm development, variety selection, precise identification, demonstrations, and promotion of salt-alkali tolerant rice.
