A three-day exchange on rice molecular genetics and molecular breeding for countries of the Belt and Road Initiative was recently held at the National Nanfan Agricultural Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) in Sanya.

More than 10 foreign participants from countries including Pakistan, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka took part in the event.

Wang Jiankang, researcher from the Crop Science Research Institute of CAAS, said, "The event focused on utilizing genetic populations for related research, analyzing genotype and phenotype data collected within the population, as well as identifying high-yield genes, disease-resistant genes, and drought-resistant genes of interest using statistical methods and software."

Hafiz Mutther from the Pakistan Rice Research Institute expressed hopes for future collaborations in agriculture and other fields to leverage the strengths of both China and Pakistan and continuously improve rice production and quality.

This event aimed to promote technical cooperation and experience sharing in rice breeding among BRI countries, enhancing the breeding capabilities and levels of researchers in rice breeding from these countries.
