Hohhot, capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, is witnessing a rapid acceleration in its new energy sector.

This was marked by the recent approval of the National Integrated Computing Power Network and the Horinger Data Center Cluster Green Energy Supply Demonstration Project at the end of 2023 – with construction currently progressing swiftly for both wind and solar energy projects.

The Horinger data center cluster in Horinger county in Hohhot is among 10 national data center clusters being established in China – part of a push to improve the country's overall computing power.

The facility will be able to accommodate about 950,000 servers – placing it among the leading data centers in China in terms of computing power – and utilizes monocrystalline silicon photovoltaic modules.

The project – which includes a 110-kilovolt boosting station, on-site roads and collection lines – is due to be completed and start operating in November.

Additionally, Horinger county has presided over the deployment of 58 wind turbines at its mountain peak, forming part of a 28 megawatt decentralized wind power plant. The turbines generate clean electrical energy, contributing to a total installed capacity of 28,000 kilowatts and an annual power generation of 6.16 million kilowatt-hours.

Hohhot's new energy landscape is expanding further with plans for the China Electric Power Energy Storage Independent Shared Energy Storage Station and other initiatives.

The developments are in line with the city's broader strategy to bolster its industrial infrastructure. This includes the second phase of the Hohhot Pumped Storage Energy project and new energy generation capacity for the Central Environmental Industrial Park.

These endeavors are said to not just be about energy production, but also signify a significant shift towards sustainable practices and green technologies.

In fact, the rapid development of the new energy industry in Hohhot is widely seen as being crucial for the region's economic transformation and underscores its commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
