Located in Weishan county, Jining, Weishan Lake stands as the largest freshwater lake in northern China.
Boasting a diverse ecosystem, the lake area is home to a remarkable 205 bird species, including 26 nationally protected and 35 provincially protected species. In the Weishan Lake National Wetland Park, a natural bird forest has emerged, captivating visitors with the breathtaking sight of thousands of egrets in flight in the evening.

The main island in the lake is Weishan Island, where residents have traditionally depended on fishing, nurturing a unique fishing culture. A notable practice on the island is the use of cormorants by fishermen to aid in their fishing activities.

In a significant development in July 2022, the Weishan Lake tourist area achieved the honor of being designated a national 5A-level scenic spot. This recognition heralds a period of transformation, enhancing the tourist experience with offerings such as large lake ecological experiences, fishing village delicacies, leisurely fishing excursions, traditional Chinese medicine services and high-quality guesthouses.
