The first stage of the 2024 National Fencing Championship was held from April 4 to 10 at the Bajiao Bay International Convention and Exhibition Center in Yantai Huang-Bohai New Area.
The high-profile fencing competition was attended by a total of 700 athletes who participated in the foil, epee, and sabre categories. The competitors displayed immense passion and fervor, engaging in intense battles throughout the tournament.
"I have been practicing fencing for eight years. This is my first time competing in Huang-Bohai New Area and I'm looking forward to experiencing the sea, beaches, and local cuisine after the competition," said Zihan from Nanjing Sports School.
Yantai, known as the hometown of fencing champion Sun Yiwen, has a strong grassroots foundation in fencing sports. The successful hosting of this competition will inject new vitality into the local sports endeavors.
