Longyou yellow tea has been granted certification as a geographical indication trademark, as recently announced by the National Intellectual Property Administration.

This rare variant of yellow tea, cultivated on Shengtang Mountain at altitudes exceeding 800 meters, originates from a unique local tea tree variety.

Utilizing asexual reproduction technology, the yellow tea boasts two to five times the amino acid content found in ordinary tea leaves, along with the inclusion of tea polyphenols, often referred to as "soft gold."

The planting area for this esteemed tea spans nearly 10,000 mu (666.67 hectares), yielding an impressive 215 metric tons and generating an output value of 100 million yuan ($13.82 million) per year.

Zhu Jianhong, head of the Longyou Yellow Tea Research and Development Center, emphasized the significance of this trademark honor in advancing the standardized and branded development of the tea, which he believes will serve as a pivotal driver of growth within the local green economy.

In addition, Longyou's chili, lotus seeds, black pork, and rice cakes have received geographical indication trademark certification.
