A delegation led by Aimane Bassiouni, vice-mayor of the 13th arrondissement of Paris, visited the Wuxi National Hi-Tech District on March 22.
Zhang Jinwei, deputy director of the high-tech district's administrative committee, highlighted the thriving economic development of the area. In 2023, the district achieved a regional GDP of 251.57 billion yuan ($34.84 billion) and maintained its top position among all regions of the same administrative level in Jiangsu province in terms of per capita GDP.
Over the years, the district has continuously strengthened international exchanges and cooperation, with France emerging as a significant source of foreign investment, said Zhang. French investments have contributed to the development of various industries in the district, including automotive parts, electrical automation, and electronic information.
Wuxi National Hi-Tech District and the 13th arrondissement of Paris had previously signed an intention letter to establish sister-city relationships. Zhang hopes that the two regions will further promote economic, technological, cultural, and educational exchanges.
Bassiouni expressed admiration for the strong industrial foundation of the Wuxi National Hi-Tech District, particularly its focus on new energy, environmental protection, and urban planning, which aligns well with Paris' sustainability goals.
As 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of Sino-French diplomatic relations, he expressed his hope that the two districts will leverage their advantages to deepen cooperation through various cultural and trade activities.
