An unconventional form of end-of-term assessment recently took place in primary schools in Tai'an, where students showcased their achievements in music, physical education, art, and practical skills.

For instance, in the Taishan Foreign Language School's primary division, martial arts is a key component of the physical education curriculum. The school has introduced different levels of martial arts instruction based on the age and physical and mental development of students in each grade.

"The school's assessment of music, physical education, and art subjects includes regular checks, lesson observations, student evaluations, and on-site assessments, aiming to strengthen arts and physical education and provide more platforms for children to develop their own hobbies and strengths," said Miao Yanli, director of the school's primary division.

Daidaoan Primary School in Taishan district, Tai'an evaluated the practical skills of students in grades two to five.

Evaluated skills included mopping the floor for second graders, folding clothes for third graders, making beds for fourth graders, and cooking for fifth graders.

Since 2017, the school has included "daily household chores for each student" among its assignments. The school has also introduced a practical-skill-based curriculum and developed household chore lists and evaluation styles tailored to students of different grades, making practical skills a part of students' overall development.
