Ordos pushes forward 'double enhancement' of urban governance, civilization level

In 2023, the city of Ordos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region pushed forward the "double enhancement" of its urban governance and civilization level.

Throughout the year, a total of 183 municipal infrastructure projects were implemented, with an investment completion of 1.19 billion yuan ($163.01 million).

The city constructed 52 new pocket parks and small green spaces, along with 76 kilometers of greenways, while an additional 288.5 hectares of green space was renovated.

Moreover, 4,888 new charging piles were set up, and 195.3 km of water, sewage, and gas pipelines were renovated or newly installed.

Efforts were also made to strengthen rural construction, with the renovation of 39 dilapidated houses, and the completion of 33 town sewage treatment facilities. Currently, the city's sewage treatment coverage rate sits at 91.7 percent.

In 2023, the city set 95 indicators to monitor the situation of six sub-districts, 13 communities, and 45 neighborhoods in its central urban area.

Ordos established a "1+4+N" digital housing construction system, which integrated 21 municipal applications into one digital platform.

Simultaneously, 59 old residential areas were renovated, with 148 new elevators installed. Rental subsidies totaling 9.9 million yuan were provided to 654 households, benefiting 34,000 households.

In 2023, the urbanization rate of the city's permanent population reached 78.1 percent. The city's urban water supply coverage rate hit 99.8 percent and its gas coverage rate reached 96.1 percent.

The harmless treatment rate of domestic waste reached 100 percent, while the green space rate and green coverage rate in the city's built-up area reached 41.7 percent and 45 percent, respectively.
