"Yunnan: A Many-Splendored Life - The First Yunnan Folk Songs Singing Activity” kicked off on Jan 21, in Yunnan Ethnic Village.
Performances were given by different ethnic minorities in the village.
From the 'Pig Driving' of the Lisu ethnic group to the Wa ethnic group's young girls and boys singing “Wa People Sing New Songs,” various ethnic groups such as the Achang, Tibetan, Dai, Bai, Yi, Jingpo, and others sang traditional folk songs, with their melodies echoing throughout the villages.
The event will span the whole year. In addition to the provincial-level launching ceremony and singing competition, each of the 16 cities and prefectures will host a local singing competition, and 129 counties, towns, and villages will organize various forms of singing contests.
Yunnan has been known as a land of song and dance since ancient times. Through generations of artistic inheritance, Yunnan has accumulated numerous classic folk songs that are widely loved and recognized. There are nearly 2,000 officially recorded Yunnan folk songs.
