Since July 2022, the Guangzhou Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology has preserved and enhanced the surroundings of the Nanyue Kingdom wooden sluice site. After the upgrades, the site was opened to the public on Jan 18!

The Nanyue Kingdom wooden sluice site, located on the northern bank of the Pearl River, served as a crucial facility against floods and tides and for drainage more than 2,000 years ago.

Comprising lock chambers, water channels on its north and south sides and connecting structures on both banks, the site was discovered in 2000. It plays a significant role in research on urban water management systems during the Qin (221-206 BC) and Han (206 BC-AD 220) dynasties, the southern boundary of the Nanyue Kingdom’s capital and the technology behind ancient wooden structures.
