Xi'an works to improve people's livelihoods

Since 2023, Xi'an has focused on education, medical care, elderly care, employment, social security, rural vitalization and more in an effort to improve people's quality of life.

In the autumn semester of 2023, Xi'an put into operation 26 new, renovated or expanded schools, with 33,000 study slots added; 352 projects to improve the capabilities of compulsory education were implemented; and conditions at primary and secondary schools were further improved.

The city has arranged for 6,373 teachers and principals to participate in exchanges and rotations to promote the balanced allocation of high-quality educational resources.

The city's high-quality medical resources have been expanded, with 14 district- and county-level hospitals and 11 district- and county-level disease control centers put into operation.

As of the end of 2022, the elderly population aged 60 and above in Xi'an had reached 2.31 million, accounting for 17.74 percent of the city's total population. Xi'an is a national pilot city for the reform of the elderly care service industry, the integration of medical and nursing care, and the reform of home and community elderly care services.

So far, 2,842 elderly care service facilities of various types have been built in the city, including 143 nursing homes, 115 town-level comprehensive elderly care service centers, 1,230 community elderly care service stations, and 1,354 rural mutual aid and welfare homes.

Meanwhile, Xi'an has done a solid job in targeted assistance and village-based assistance to develop and expand characteristic industries in assisted villages, enhance industrial competitiveness, and help people increase their incomes.
