The first China-Europe freight train (Xi'an) in 2024 left from Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, on Jan 1, bound for Moscow, Russia.

Loaded with 55 containers of paper-plastic-aluminum composite materials and general merchandise, the train will leave the country via Alashankou Port in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. The total journey is approximately 7,206 kilometers and will last for 13 days.

The train is jointly operated by the management committee of the Xi'an International Trade and Logistics Park and Russian Railways. It is also a model for freight train services, as it provides export-oriented international logistics channels for production and trade enterprises.

So far, the freight train has opened 17 international trunk lines from Xi'an to Almaty, Tashkent, Hamburg, and Moscow, covering the entire Eurasian continent. It has also built the foundation for an international and modern logistics system.

In 2023, the China-Europe freight train (Xi'an) made a total of 5,351 trips, a year-on-year increase of 15.3 percent.

Xi'an has become the first city in China to exceed an annual operation of 5,000 train trips and a cumulative operation of over 20,000 train trips for the freight train.
